Category: Let's talk
I agree on that one, James. You hit the nail on the head. I think we should kill everyone and then eat them.
Yep! I'm a loser! Hhahaha! I'll join the loser fan club. Any one else wanna join?
James. I agree. Anyone who feels that they must bolster their low self asteme by doing an even lower and flat out ridiculous act in my mind is intilectually empty and shallow.
Well then, looks like I'm a loser. And I'm proud.
I don't understand why people have them to begin with. I didn't make one, no need to draw attention tords myself like that in any way.
Agreed, I'll never be a member of someone else's fan club and I don't want to have my own. :) If I have friends that's awesome but I don't want anyone to admire me, because quite frankly I'm not better than anyone else . So those who are serious about fan clubs .. emm, yes, must be losers, those who are posting them for fun, well, I suppose they're ok although they have a weird sense of humor. ;)
Cheers

Why is it that the various fan clubs that have sprung up around here have been started by the person whose fans the members are supposed to be? Let me explain: if you have a football team, for instant, the fan club wan't be started up by the chairman or manager of that team, will it? Of course not! It'll be started up by the fans as a mark of apppreciation, that's why it's a fan club rather than an outpost of the football team. Here, by contrast, we have zoners who decide to start up their own fan clubs! If anyone wants to start a Lawlordian fan club then they're welcome, of course, to do so if they feel that I justify that honour, but that setting up should have nothing to do with me at all and nor should I contribute to it. starting up your own fan club? I've never seen anything so ridiculous in my life! Is the aim to have rival fan clubs on here to beat the crap out of each other? Because if it is, then I'm up for that! The other ridiculous thing, by the way, is the user who shall remain nameless who advertises his software website like a tin of baked beans whenever he gets the chance. We know the URL by now, my son! Get a cricket game written and I'll certainly visit your website and download it.
I meant download the game of course, not download the website!
Lawlord, I think that point was understood. It is my thot the Fan Clubs are a way to have Friendly Meet n- Greet of one the other... Now this killing everyone to eat every one, well, seems to me some are a might bit tough and would be hard to swallow...
If we needed fan clubs to meet and greet everyone, then nobody would ever have conversations, would they? can you imagine having to join a fan club before you had a chat with someone on the train or bus? And blind people would be in a right old 2 and 8, wouldn't they? imagine: 'Excuse me, Sir, but can you tell me whether I'm heading in the right direction for Leicester square?' 'Can't help you, mate, you're not a member of the Fred the traffic warden's fan club and I can't talk to anyone outside the club'. Nobody would get anywhere, would they?
*Laughs* I didn't create one, but I'm not going to call down others that have created them. They're just having fun that's all :) If you don't like it, then don't bother reading them.
I don't read them, and I'm afraid I haven't been able to join any either because the founders haven't seen fit to explain to us the benefits of membership. I don't want to join and then find I have to pay a subscription fee, do I?
Yeah I agree LL that mostly fan clubs are started by the fans, not the person who starts it who's being admired by. For example say a friend of mine was gonna do this. THEY would say "Blindvi's fan club" and maintain it, not me. I do go in a few of them because the owners of 2 of them happen to be friends of mine so I'm not gonna cut them down in their own clubs. Nor will I not join and enjoy myself as they'd probally wonder why I hadn't joined etc. Pretty much you talk about anything in these clubs...... Well thats what I saw in the 2 that I joined lol.
way, to, fucking, serious!
i quite agree, that's why I've attempted to be light-hearted in this particular discussion. This bloody country! Oops sorry no I'm not supposed to say that am I?
Well, in defense of my own post, it was all in fun. It's too bad people choose to see some kind of desperate cry for help and not just somebody having a little fun. Boy, it makes me wish I had the capacity to put others down because they're not like me. It must be quite a rush.
Well thats why I post/read them: All in fun. No seriousness intended.
I ain't putting nobody down of course, but merely pointing out the rather humorous paradox of the worshippers' clubs being set up by the would-be worshipped.
Hay Torico, me sista, I definitely agree with you... Some just ain't gettin' it... Look LawLord what with you...Worshippers! What? You in church or something..? I know I know NOW you gonna critize my writin' style... Maybe you need to come to Detroit and meet up with a few gangsta's... Man, what give with you anyhow..??? Look, I no tryin' to be mean it is just some of us FAN CLUB members, we gonna stick together. Con-nee-ta here
Fo' Sheezy' CG.
Gangstas? no kiddin' girl!
Cortney
Where's all the blasted fan club merchandise? I mean, quid pro quo! If you set up a fan club yourself then you've got to have some marketing and promotions! You see, CG? I can post to a discussion without critising sorry criticising your writing once.
You forgot something LL: Finances and sponsership. How much people owe in dues, how much the club owes in dues etc.
Man, LawLord, will you GET REAL?!?!?!? Fan Club Merchandize, we no do that outta date stuff, that is all sho nuff flash and that not what we bein' into, dig? Probably not cause you like in another world and not with the folk who just wanna be more so laid back, chillin' and takin' it easy in life and Bein' Real. Look, you wanna have marketing and promotions, THEN you set up your own Fecking Fan Club and do all the promo stuff! Why don't you stay with bashing England and leave the USA alone as well as Aussie Kickers! *grin*, we are NOT into having "kings" tellin' us we are suppose to have promos and all. Look, the thing is, you notice a Fan Club that someone has set up and you say, Hey, think I might enjoy the added Fellowship as it were of Friends/sistas/bros who like to gather and simply share... you know, NOT bash, then I guess maybe you know nuttin' about this kind of lifestyle...sorry for you. Hey, LawLord, I am not mad at you it is just that you don't get it so why not leave those of us who get it, well, why not leave well enough alone...?!?!? {I put the extra !?!?! in for YOUR benefit LawLord, a Holiday bonus for your added enjoyment *smile*, and I have not been the only one you critized for a style of writin'. YOUR style is NOT the only style... then again I supposin' if one has a king tellin' them it is, and thats the point WE ARE NOT INTO HAVING "KINGS." This is NOT England!} CG
Finances, sponserships, dues!?!?!?!? Blindvi and LawLord you two were made for each other. CG
hahahahahahahaha I've started something here, haven't I? CG, we don't have a king at the moment either for your information. secondly, your entire courts system is based very much on our own, ditto your democratic model. Now, I shall talk about whatever I wish and if that includes dissing fan clubs then so be it. I'm not criticising anyone for their lifestyles, and you'll notice that it's not I who am telling other people to leave everyone alone etc. no no no, that comes from the supposed peace-loving fan club members. You're all very good people and I've chatted to you a number of times, or at least a fair number of you, but if I can't indulge in a bit of satire then what is the world coming to? Some of y'all really need to develop a thicker skin and stop resorting to gratuitous swearing.
So you want for me to call you a queen.......
I think he wants to be just called lawlord.
Quite right, quite right. Fan clubs? who needs 'em?
Hmm ok :) I think I should explain why the word fan club annoys me (and yes, I know this is not that serious and all that, and I'm not saying that's really what the "fan clubs" here are about but that's why I'd never join one).
The word fan club implies that the person whose fan club is being formed is somehow better, more skilled or superior to the "fans" else there would be no "fans". As such friend's club, club, circle of friends etc are all just much better and, to me, more acceptible ways of putting it. I'll admit to be someone's friend and defend that person in an argument or whatever but I do not feel anyone is superior to me in any way (nor inferior, we're all the same) especially one who forms his/her own fan club. So if someone was serious about these clubs I'd say that person has problems, but I fully realize that's not the meaning of them here and I like some of you quite well who have formed fan clubs here even if I don't join them on principle .
cheers

As I said, I've started something here haven't I? I wasn't meaning to be that serious, nor was I attempting to silence the fan clubbers, they're welcome to them. I repeat, my point was merely this one: if A sets up a fan club in favour of A, rather than B setting up a fan club in favour of A, then therein lies a paradox. I dunno, fan clubs? who needs 'em? I say ban 'em!
well I believe it's all meant to be a bit of harmless fun, all this fanclub thing. But all you who have set up your fan clubs tell us this, if you'd posted to say that you were setting up a fan club and had got no responses, how would you have felt then? Because in my view the reason you are setting up fanclubs is because you think you are popular and would like others to see and acknowledge that you are popular, but let's say one of you had posted to say you were setting up a fan club and no one had joined, that might leave a slightly different taste might it not?
But, Wildebrew, I don't think that being a 'fan' of someone automatically means that you believe that that person, *as a complete person*, is superior to you (though in some cases it might mean that, as when people start to take people as authorities on, say, politics because they happen to be, for example, decent singers). When you are a 'fan' of someone, you usually admire a particular one of their skills. If, for example, you are an Elvis fan (God forbid :-)), this doesn't mean you think he was superior to you as a person, but you might think he was a fine singer. So from that perspective, I think fan clubs are acceptable because they apply to particular skills and not persons per se. That being said, this interpretation makes it sort of silly to have random 'fan clubs' that don't seem to be based on any skill or achievement in particular but on people as 'package deals', as seems to be the case for our Zone fan clubs.
Now that I have typed this out I'm no longer sure if I have a point... :-) What do you guys think?
I created a fan club, not because I wanted to be worshiped or admired, but because as i said in my post, I think it can be a cool way to bring people together. Ok, maybe a different topic tital, like one of my previous posts, the zone bbs and all the friends I've met out here, would be a better topic than having my own fan club. but, As I said, I hate popularity contests, and would never ever set myself up on a pedestal. I will, however, acknowledge friends who create such topics, and i created mine, well, because, why the hell not. If my friends wanna respond, cool enough. If someone else wants to respond, either who I might not nno that well, or have talked to a few times but haven't gotten to know, then I can at least say that i've made a few more friends if not acquaintances.
I don't think fan clubs are necessarily for "losers", or "cool people" because in my book there's no such thing as a loser or a cool person, you are who you are. Yeah I might think certain of my friends are cool, but because i think they rock as indeviduals, and are really good friends. I am not one who likes to worship anybody.
if i like you, it's because you treat me with respect, not because I think your cool, or better than anyone else, and i so don't think of myself as being better than anyone else. But I can't speak for others, I can only speak for myself.
Charis
Oh give me a break, guys. The fan clubs are just an inside joke, and just a bit of fun, and it's not a matter of bragging or low self-esteme. It's just a bit of fun. So lighten up, lol! Oh and I will join teh loser fan club Charis hehehehehe!
No such things as losers? Charisma I fear you are mistaken. If there was no such thing as a loser there would be no such thing as a winner either, and of course that would make everything so terribly dull wouldn't it? after all, as Ron Weasley said in the fourth Harry Potter book, the tri-wizard tournament was 'About winning'. And that's what life is, one big tri-wizard tournament albeit with more than three or even four competitors. And that brings us back to fan clubs although to be honest I'm not quite sure how: I think this discussion has got far too serious due to the slightly philosophical posts that immediately preceed my own somewhat haphazard contribution that I am currently in the process of writing. However, from the mayhem and general entanglement there appears a serious point, and that is that any fan club shouldn't develop into a clique especially with new members of the zone, which for the record I see as a very friendly community. Apart from that I don't see any problem with them, but all you fan clubbers out there, remember that nothing, I repeat, nothing is immune from a bit of satyrical comment. Satire doesn't purport to put any idea down as such, but only to make a joke at its expense.
for Caitlin and Charis, yes, I know, I just figured this might be turned into a bit of a philosophical discussion, I'm not putting anyone who created their fan club down ;) although I will refuse to join in any of them even if I think all of you are very cool people indeed. :)
Susanne, see, there's the difference. I am a fan of someone's music, not of the person him/herself. E.g. I like a lot of Oasis songs, especially the "What's the Story..." album but I'll be the first one to admit their public behavior is disgraceful and at times they really don't seem like nice people. Even Radiohead whose music I am a huge fan of, they're nice blokes I am sure but I wouldn't exactly swoon if I got to meet one of them and "hang out", yeah I'd think it was cool because they might teach me a trick or two musically (although probably not, I'd imaine they're sick of talking about their music) and it might be fun, but I would not feel like a life's dream came true in any way. Same with all the screaming and giggling when a major pop star or actor is around, I don't really feel owed in any way, only appreciative of them bringing their talent to the world. So I am strictly a fan of the talent, not of the person.
cheers

I remember Nole and Liam from Oasis having a huge argument on mic once after Liam had been chucked off a ferry on the way back from Ireland......well obviously he wasn't chucked off the ferry on the way back or else he would have drowned, but I think what happened was he was arrested on arrival at Hollyhead.
But should we assume that somebody who says this thing or that thing is for losers is a winner? We can't prove it unless they admit to whatever power or property they own that makes them a winner.
I don't intend for my fan club to become a clique or any such thing, it's jsut a joke! And for any of you who are offended by it, angered, disugsted, repulsed, think I'm being stupid or bragging or acting like a jerk, I'm really sorry about it, and want to make amends. Caitlin
Advertising is the american way or something. I just do it to be, well, I don't know. I realize I have no games written that are worth anything, I just try and get it out there in a lame way and because I guess I have nothing else of importance to say at that particular moment... yeah, it is kinda lame. Oh yeah people are probably way past this I didn't look at this topic for a while...
James
Lol ... well ... I think people have kinda lost interest ish but yeah. Whatever...
Uh, what I meant by people aren't "losers", is that I don't refer to anyone as a loser, in, "That guy/girl is a loser!" I know that you can't be a winner if there's no such thing as a loser, and that life is aabout winning or losing because I've done both. But does that make me a winner or a loser? No. It makes me me. SO, that is what I meant by that.
Well, mes bons hommes de neige, we seem to have got ourselves into a right old 2 and 8 over this one! Charisma I know what you meant don't worry, I was just being a pedant for the sake of it. The real loser out of this topic is coherency as it's turned into a sounding board which doesn't really advance the discussion. All I can say is: fan clubs? Who needs 'em? i say ban 'em! Drown them in the sea!
And I'd like to say, given that I am about to depart for the wilds of essex for a family christmas so won't be on here until after the festivities, to all you fan clubbers out there and indeed to all participants in this incisive electrifying discussion: have yourselves a very merry christmas - eat, drink and be merry, and don't do anything I wouldn't do. Take care of yourselves and enjoy the christmas fan club's annual promotional festival, as will I. Have a good one my friends.
Will do LL. TO be honest I didn't think anyone would post in this topic so when I logged on yesterday and saw thirty nine posts I was surprised to say the least. I don't mean that anyone who starts a fan club is a loser, I understand that it's sort of a fun thing to do, just now everyone's doing it and well... part of me does say, "Why start up a freaking fan club?" it's just sort of egotistic... when a few people were doing it fine but you know now I think of it it seems like people are just starting them up to show homeyship with others and share the love. Aww. Hoppy Hallidays.
James
After rereading this topic, I just want to say that the whole question about the "why is the person who is supposedly being admired setting up their club." It's because its' a joke, it's not really a fan club, it's jsut a little joke topic, so yeah, it's all in fun. And also I'm not doing it because I think I'm popular, or want to make a clique, or be a fool, or do anything like that, it's just a joke, so yeah. I don't think I'm better than anyone either. And if no one joined my little silly club thingy I wouldn't care. And I'm sure that's how the other sfeel too. So just ignore the club topics if it annoys you, and again, sorry for bothering you all with these, if that's been done. Caitlin P.S. And yeah CG you're kinda right, it is a good way to meet people, and, according to James, spread thel ove. I like that. Lol.
Hey yall, yes, do please, have a happy holiday, and, it's been fun, and stuff. James, you rock, i don't know you, but yeah! This topic has been very, very interesting, and has just served the exact same purpose as some of those "fan clubs", it brought some of us together who have never posted on the same board/topic before.
Charis
Agreed.... and do feel Welcomed to come on over to the Circle of Friends.... open to all who want to come.... Happy Holidays...
Yeah, same, this topic is good, it's been fun, if it is destined to end now. And all feel welcome to come over to the Caitlin CLub that is not a club, but an open door for all who want to come and have fun and play nicely hehehee. Yay! Caitlin
